NVIDIA Co-packaged optics group is seeking hardworking Optics Lab engineers to join our optics and laser testing team. We seek a highly skilled and knowledgeable Optics and Lasers Lab Physicist to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee laser testing and characterization of packaged laser chips and provide support in the development process of Fiber attach for co-packaged optical modules. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of optics, lasers, and fiber optic technology, coupled with expertise in laser testing, characterization, and packaging. The Optics and Lasers Lab Physicist will collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to the development and improvement of silicon photonics Co packaged systems.
What you’ll be doing:
- Perform laser testing and characterization of packaged laser chips, including output power, wavelength, modulation, and noise measurements.
- Develop and implement testing methodologies and procedures for laser characterization and performance evaluation.

Collaborate with engineers and scientists to assist in developing a fiber attach process for co-packaged optical modules.- Design and execute experiments to evaluate the quality and performance of laser devices and modules.
- Develop and maintain test equipment setups and testing tools, including lasers, optical measurement instruments, and data acquisition systems.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of laser packaging techniques and processes.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and findings accurately and comprehensively.
What we need to see:
- BSc. Degree (Masters or MSc. Is an advantage) in Physics, Optics, Electro-optics, or EE in related fields. A focus on lasers and Fiber optics is preferred.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience (full time after graduate)
- Proven experience working in an optics and laser laboratory, preferably in a research or development environment.
- Experience in laser testing and characterization, including Optical power and wavelength measurements and high-frequency modulation and noise analysis.
- Proficiency in using optical measurement instruments like optical power and spectrum analyzers, RF spectrum analyzers, and high-speed oscilloscopes.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
- Familiarity with fiber optic alignment techniques, fiber attach processes, and optical coupling methods.
- Knowledge of programming languages, such as MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW, for data analysis and automation.
- Strong knowledge of laser principles, laser diode physics, and Fiber optic technology.
- Knowledge of Silicon photonics technology and devices.
